Dance Jacket
The Dance Jacket is an interactive wearable technology, that can be utilised by dancers and non-dancers alike as a form of self-expression and visual interpretation of music. The jacket captures the upper body movements of the dancer using an accelerometer and displays them as colorful, animated LED lights on the jacket.
The Dance Jacket bridges the gap between dancers and musicians, acting as an instrument specifically for the dancer, where their movements can guide the lights to be displayed as rhythmic patterns, colors and pulses. The jacket also accentuates the movements of the dancer through the lights, further amplifying the performance and expressions being conveyed. The jacket can be used by dancers in their performances for added emphasis. Furthermore, the jacket could be utilized by and for those with hearing impairments, where they could create their own ‘visual music’ or just have the music translated visually through the lights. This makes the jacket inclusive to those who find it difficult to connect to music. Alternatively, the jacket could just for individual purposes such as dancing with friends and family.
